Wrong-Way Head On Crash Takes Life of Eagle Lake Man

A wrong-way driver took the life of another motorist in a pre-dawn crash on SR 60 early Saturday morning after two vehicles collided head-on about a half-mile east of Logistics Parkway.

An Eagle Lake man died in a collision with a wrong-way driver early Saturday on SR 60 just east of Logistics Parkway.

First responders, including Polk County Fire Rescue and the Polk County Sheriff's Department, were dispatched to the scene, about six miles west of Lake Wales and 10 miles east of Bartow, at about 4:25 a.m. That location is in the midst of the Peace Creek floodplain.

Upon arrival they found 35-year old Orli Dagoberto Argueta Sanchez of Eagle Lake deceased in his 2004 Nissan Sentra. A second vehicle, a 2022 Hyundai Sonata, was driven by 27-year old Sergio Nino Ramirez of Lake Wales. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

According to Sheriff's Department investigators, evidence and witness statements indicated that the Nissan was traveling east on eastbound SR 60, while the Hyundai was traveling west, also in the eastbound lanes. The two vehicles collided head-on.

One man was left dead after the 3:25 a.m. crash on SR 60 west in the area of the Peace Creek floodplain.

The eastbound lanes of SR 60 were closed for approximately four hours.
