A raging fire that sent flames leaping dozens of feet into the air and alarmed many area residents destroyed a Lake Wales residence shortly after 5:30 Monday afternoon.
The emergency call was received by first responders at 5:28 p.m. and within minutes at least 13 fire rescue and Medical team vehicles were rolling to the flaming structure on Ridge manor Drive. Smoke from the inferno was reportedly visible from more than two miles away.
Witnesses told Lake Wales News that the flames quickly engulfed the mobile home, which appeared to be a total loss. A man that neighbors identified as the sole occupant of the structure was seen walking nearby, apparently unhurt, as firefighters doused the flames.
Lake Wales Fire Department was backed by Polk County Fire Rescue in battling the fire, which had many neighbors nervous due to the extremely dry conditions and the proximity of nearby homes that were exposed to the heat of the fire.
The fire call was reported by emergency services as 110 Ridge Manor Drive, but the house involved appeared to be a neighboring residence at 118 Ridge manor Drive.
By 6 p.m. the fire appeared to be under control, but the home appeared to be a total loss..
