Play Runs in Lake Wales Through November 24
A rollicking send-up of all things "soap opera" will entertain theatre-goers for three weekends as Lake Wales Little Theatre offers "The Bold, The Young, and the Murdered" to begin the adult plays for its 47th season.
The show is directed by David Smith and features an ensemble cast of 13, and an inside peek at the imagined tensions on a television studio set filled with high-maintenance actors and giant egos. Each character presents an obvious personality flaw that produces some humorous exchanges and clashes.
The pressure builds when the bickering cast is informed that the long-running soap is on the brink of being cancelled by the studio and replaced by a Chinese production due to their slow production times and high costs. The weirdness begins to grow when the doors are locked for an all-night production session, and the first victim soon hits the floor.
Cast members seem eager to fill the voids created as others turn up dead, while a mysterious block on connections prevents anyone calling the police. The cast soldiers on as the bodies pile up in the fashion of an Agatha Christie play.
The strict director, Oli, played by Timothy Anderson, tries futilely to keep the production moving forward, but faces repeated attempts to change the script from Eileen Silverstedt, played by Stacy DeCosmo.
Valencio Di Carpethio, played by Brad Breaux, emotes his part with dramatic exaggeration, spoofing the popular image of acting, while Sebastian Strong, played by Casey Gist, uses his assumed "animal magnetism" to attempt to prey upon the female cast members.
Brianna Brown plays Sequoiya, Timothy Anderson portrays Oli, while the role of Kaitlin is played by Gianna Dadiego and Keri is played by Maddison Glockner.
Cearah Furlow plays Brooke, and Natasha Ridgeley portrays Mary.
Others in the cast include Seth Zarandona as Jake Strong, Lori Boyd as Mona Jefferies, Kiera McAlpine, portraying Jessica Silverstedt, and Joshua Sipe as Dr. William Bradley.
Karen Fewell is the stage manager over a set that consists of three separate shooting sets arranged for the soap opera production, allowing the action to flow back and forth from scene to scene.
The show will offer performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees through November 24. Reserved seat tickets can be purchased online through the theatre website at http://www.lwlt.org.
