Communication Builds Our Community
Dennis Quaid delivers a compelling performance as Ronald Reagan in the biopic Reagan. The film, directed by Sean McNamara and based on Paul Kengor's 2006 book The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism presents a celebratory portrait of the former president.
Quaid captures Reagan's folksy charm and charisma, while Penelope Ann Miller provides a nuanced portrayal of Nancy Reagan. The film's production values are impressive, with convincing makeup and sets that accurately recreate the era.
While Reagan offers a one-sided heroic view of the president, it does touch on some of the challenges he faced during his administration. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of a former Soviet leader, who recounts Reagan's role in the Cold War. The film highlights key moments in Reagan's life that the public is familiar with, including his assassination attempt and memorable debate moments.
Fans of Reagan will undoubtedly appreciate this film, while those with a more critical view may find it overly flattering. The film's focus on Reagan's public persona and his impact on world events leaves little room for exploring the complexities of his legacy.
The Vice President, George H W Bush, gets only one scene which I found funny.
There are some '80s flashback elements that I enjoyed.
Despite its limitations, Reagan is a visually appealing and entertaining film that offers a glimpse into the life of one of America's most iconic presidents. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
