Aaliyah Ross, 27, of Lake Wales Under Arrest After Incident

A Lake Wales woman has been arrested after she allegedly intentionally drove over her husband, who was holding an infant, injuring them both on Monday afternoon. The 16-month-old child remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

The incident followed a domestic argument between Aaliyah Ross, 27, of Lake Wales, and her husband, Devin Ross, 25, during which he reportedly walked out of the house carrying the child before throwing a concrete block onto her car.

Aaliyah Ross, 27, of Lake Wales, is being held in the Orange County Jail awaiting transfer to Polk County where she will face multiple charges related to her alleged assault with a vehicle that left her own child in critical condition.

As the argument between the couple escalated, the infuriated Aaliyah Ross placed two other small children, ages four years old and six months, into her Toyota Corolla. As he began to run away, still carrying the 16-month-old child, Ross accelerated her car directly at the two victims, running over them before crashing into a neighbor's trailer. She then retrieved the injured child and left the scene of the crash. Much of the incident was captured by a camera from across the street.

As Devin Ross was seeking Medical attention he reportedly called Aaliyah and told her to bring the child to the hospital, According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, she refused, deciding instead to return the child to the house before fleeing to Orlando. Devin Ross then returned to the house, retrieved the child, and went to the hospital.

The couple's 16-month old boy suffered critical injuries and "remains hospitalized with a broken left shoulder and collar bone, multiple broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and abrasions and bruising on his body," according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The child has since been transferred to a Medical facility in Tampa.

Devin Ross was treated and released from the hospital, having suffered bruising to his body and lungs.

The two uninjured children are now in the protection of the Florida Department of Children and Families, which is currently evaluating their plan of custody.

Polk deputies located Ross in Orlando, where she was arrested by Orange County deputies. She is currently being held in the Orange County Jail awaiting transfer back to Polk County to face charges.

According to a detective, Ross told him that "there have been several times in the past that she has acted as if she was going to run over the man, but she would swerve at the last second to avoid hitting him. She said she assumed that because of that, he would have moved out of the way in this instance, but he did not."

Ross is now facing charges including Aggravated Child Abuse (F1), Aggravated Battery-Domestic (F2), Negligent Child Abuse (F3), Battery-Domestic (M1), and Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage (M2). The investigation is ongoing.

"Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday," Judd said, including "running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get Medical treatment for the obviously injured baby. Someone who does this to a baby will do this to anyone. Her uncontrollable rage is a threat to the public."
