Sylvia Marsee Griner died at home surrounded by her family on February 24, 2024, at 8 p,m, due to a lung disease she had for many years. She was 85 years old, and was born June 17, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rubin Lee Marsee and Flarida Marsee, brother Ray Marsee, and sisters Stella Willene and Fay Juanita.
She is survived by her husband Aaron Beal Griner and four children. Brenda Griner Schell (Steven), Treasa Griner McLean (Ken), Kenneth Aaron Griner (Carrie) and David Griner (Dana).
Sylvia was a homemaker and mother. She met her sweetheart Beal in junior high school in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. They have a love story that is precious and were married almost 69 years.
Sylvia was a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Her faith in God was tremendous and she lifted her family up in daily prayer.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jeremy Schell (Becky Ballentine Schell), Cassandra Schell Pauley (Scott Pauley), Jared McLean (Danielle Tabar), Brenton McLean (Sarah Braunberg), Travis McLean (Toni Rae Stephenson), Mitchell Griner, Garrett Griner, and Rachael Griner and twelve great grandchildren: Hannah Schell, Waylon Schell , Marcey Schell, , Georgia Pauley, Wyatt Pauley, Levi McLean, Luke McLean, Leighton McLean, Mila McLean, Kenna McLean, Jase McLean, and Colbie McLean.
She provided childcare in Lake Wales for many families throughout the years, and neighborhood children claim both her and Beal as their second parents. She also ran a Good News Club out of her home in the 1960s. Sylvia and Beal were very active in the children's ministry at church throughout the years until her illness prevented their involvement.
Sylvia and Beal were members at Winter Haven Baptist for many years and are currently members of First Baptist Church of Lake Wales. Services will be at First Baptist Church of Lake Wales on Sunday afternoon, March 3, 2024. Family visitation will be held from1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life service will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Crowder Chapel and Cemetery located in Mossy Head, Florida, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to visit after the burial at the Griner Homestead.
