More Wild Weather on Tap for The Coming Days

Rain, Gusty Winds Expected Across Florida

If you're planning to be out and about this week, you may want to "hold on to your hat" as another round of windy weather will follow bands of rain expected to begin on Sunday and continue into Monday evening. According to forecasters from the National Weather Service, an "anomalous" or unusually-strong low pressure system will move over Florida from the Gulf of Mexico during that period, creating the possibility of more strong thunderstorms.

Widespread rain and showers are expected on Sunday, followed by the chance for stronger storms on Tuesday, That will be followed by a blustery period of strong winds as the low passes away over the Atlantic.

While the chances of severe weather here are only about one-in-five, there will be a slight chance of hail and potential tornadoes during the period. Widespread rainfall totals of a half-inch could be significantly higher in places that are impacted by the scattered thunderstorms embedded in the system.

After Wednesday a warming trend is expected that will bring a series of pleasant, spring-like days, including for the Lake Wales Mardi Gras parade, which is expected to draw more than 20,000 visitors to Lake Wales.
