"Rebel Moon" a Great Popcorn Flick

Sofia Boutella Shines as Kora

I watched Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon movie, recently released on Netflix. While Snyder doesn't always get it right, I like looking at whatever he does. He is known for the Man of Steel and other DC superhero movies.

Rebel Moon part 1 delivers a visually stunning sci-fi spectacle with great characters and wonderful special effects. Sofia Boutella shines as Kora, a warrior haunted by her past who seeks to become the unlikely savior of a peaceful moon farming colony. Ed Skrein is equally captivating as the ruthless Noble, adding layers of complexity to his villainous role. Snyder's signature slow-motion visuals and epic battle sequences are in full force, leaving you awestruck by the sheer scale and beauty of the film's world.

However, the plot treads familiar ground, feeling somewhat predictable at times. It's basically the plot of A Bugs Life. Some character motivations could have been explored further, and the overall narrative lacks originality. There are some great characters that are recruited to fight the villains but their backgrounds and motivations aren't fleshed out well. I really liked one of the robot characters. I wanted to see more of him.

Still, Rebel Moon is an enjoyable popcorn flick that's heavy on action, so you don't have to think too much. This is just fun to watch.

I'm looking forward to part 2 in April.

I rate this 3 out of 5 stars.
