Local Vendor Spots Fill Early, Attract Thousands of Shoppers and Bargain Hunters
You can expect to meet crowds of bargain-hunters on one area roadway as the 16th annual Ridge Scenic Highway "39 Mile Yard Sale" takes place on on Saturday, November 4th.
The event typically draws thousands of visitors from across central Florida and beyond, coming to seek unusual finds and great bargains brought forth from barns, garages, attics, and other treasure storerooms.
The sale runs from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm along the entire length of the Ridge Scenic Highway, (SR-17), from Haines City to Frostproof, but smart shoppers don't wait to try to find the best or rarest objects..
The event is sponsored by the Ridge Scenic Highway "Corridor Management Entity," an organization of volunteers and representatives of cities and communities along the route. "Official" vendor sites typically draw hundreds to thousands of shoppers to scores of booths and tables set up in parking lots and on lawns.
Official sites along the southern portion of Polk's Lake Wales Ridge include the Dundee Methodist Church, the Lake of the Hills Community Center, the Lake Wales Woman's Club, and downtown Frostproof. Vendors are encouraged to reserve their space at one of numerous official sites as thousands of "treasure hunters" are expected.
In previous years, spontaneous vendors have also sprung up all along the highway, while area restaurants, shops, and service providers offer enticing "Yard Sale" specials throughout the day.
The 39 Mile Yard Sale was started in 2007, to encourage tourism in the Central Florida communities along the Ridge Scenic Highway, and to promote awareness of the natural beauty of the Lake Wales Ridge, an area of rolling hills and scenic vistas; including many historic sites and nationally recognized attractions.
