Women's Team Defeated Lemon Bay in 5-0 Semifinal Game
The Lake Wales High School Softball team is angling to bring back a second state championship in a single scholastic year after defeating Lemon Bay (Englewood) 5-0 in a semifinal game played in Clermont.
The game was scheduled to start at 11:00 am, but was moved an hour earlier to avoid anticipated heavy rains in the afternoon.
The Highlanders will face the winner of the other semifinal game between Key West and Wakulla. The Highlanders are the top seed in the tournament.
The championship run comes only six months after the Highlander's football team won the state championship, their first ever in the school's 100-year history.
The Highlander women advanced to the state title tournament last year but fell to Deltona in the title game.
The championship game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday, but a change in timing is possible. LakeWalesNews, net will bring updates on any changes as soon as they are received.
