Ballot Set for April City Commission Election

Election Will Choose Two New Commissioners

Four candidates have qualified in two city commission races which will be decided during an election on April 4. Lake Wales commissioners finalized the ballot, which will include one open seat, at a special meeting on Friday afternoon.

Deputy Mayor Robin Gibson will face a challenge from political newcomer Danielle Pride Gibson in the Seat 5 race, while Michelle Threatt and Keith Thompson will face off over Seat 3, which is being vacated by long-time commissioner Terrye Howell.

The Gibson versus Gibson election has been anticipated since last year when former commissioner Curtis Gibson filed his intention to run for the seat. He withdrew less than two weeks ago after his wife Danielle picked up a qualifying package.

LakeWalesNews.net is preparing a questionnaire which will be sent to all four candidates, and their responses will be published in one or more future stories.

A forum is also being planned by the American Association of University Women, in cooperation with the Lake Wales Woman's Club. The forum will take place at the Woman's Club, 275 East Park Avenue, on March 13. Final details are being resolved as confirmed candidates respond to the invitation. LakeWalesNews.net will publish details of the forum as they are finalized.
