Communication Builds Our Community
Work Will Connect Sessoms Water Plant With Washington Avenue Main
New housing development in the Northwest Neighborhood, an area receiving significant upgrades and improvements through the Lake Wales Connected effort, will also get improved an water supply as a result of city commission action.
"We've seen consistent growth in the area in response to the City's affordable housing program," City Manager James Slaton said.
A new 12-inch water main will link together two additional 12-inch water mains previously installed. CHA Engineering is preparing construction plans to extend the larger water main from the water plant on Sessoms Avenue to connect to existing mains at the intersection of Washington Avenue and E Street. The work is expected to improve the flow of water to both fire hydrants and residential and commercial supply lines.
"As the area continues to grow, the new water main will supply quality water service to our existing residents and new residents that move to the northwest neighborhood," Utilities Support Manager Nancy Hernandez said.
"By doing the work now, our existing residents will not be impacted as more people move to the area," Slaton added.
Construction is anticipated to begin this fall.
