A "Dickens Era Pub Feast" Will Include Music and Period Costumes
A Christmas event that recalls the era of Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and Ebenezer Scrooge, complete with Victorian-Era costumes, caroling, and a tree lighting. The evening will be a memorable one for fans of the simpler times portrayed in Charles Dickens' classic tales, including his 1843 novella entitled simply "A Christmas Carol," which features the familiar characters.
The first-ever event will happen Saturday night, November 27 at the GFWC Woman's Club of Lakes Wales as they host a "Dickens Era Pub Feast" at their clubhouse for up to 100 lucky guests.
The menu for the dinner will include traditional English pub fare, including fish and chips, shepherds pie, bubble and squeak, Scotch eggs, roasted vegetables, and a flaming Christmas pudding for dessert. Entertainment will include "joyous live music and strolling carolers," according to Jessica Bray, chair of the event.
Visits from Dickens characters can be expected during the event, and an outdoor tree lighting will follow the dinner, including caroling on the grounds.
Tickets are $20 each, and attendance is limited to 100 persons. Reservations are required and can be obtained by calling 863-514-5638. The dinner event will start at 5:30 pm at the Woman's Club, 275 East Park Avenue. That location is adjacent to the Lake Wales Public Library downtown.
