James Alton "Pete" Edwards, 1939-2021

James Alton "Pete" Edwards of Lake Wales passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 at Lakeland Regional Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1939 in Crestview to the late Walton and Pearl Edwards; he moved to Lake Wales with his parents as a teen. Pete he has been a member of the River Ranch Property Association for 40 years and was president for 20 plus years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Edwards, Jr., Smidge Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, Buddy Edwards, and Jerry Edwards; sisters, Pearl "Sis" Burrows, Carolyn Shellman, and Emma "Tiny" Locke; and grandson, Blake. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandra F. "Sandy" Edwards; daughter, Stephanie Whitehead (Stormy) of Lakeland; sons, David Edwards of Lake Wales, Keith Edwards (Karen) of Lake Wales, and Scott Merritt (Miranda) of Lake Wales; brother, Royce Edwards of Waterloo, Alabama; grandchildren, Lynn Marie, Kandi, Brandon, Joshua, Jarrett, Justin, Morgan, and Jessie; and great-grandchildren, Oakley "Shorty", Sadie, and Trevor.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Lake Wales Memorial Gardens.
