The Polk State College District Board of Trustees (DBOT) will consider changes in lab fees for college credit, Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety, and Educator Preparation Institute courses offered at the College at the May 24 board meeting.
Each year the college evaluates all fees to ensure that charges accurately reflect any changes in the cost of instructional materials or supplemental items required for courses. Polk State has a total of 224 lab fees for the 2021-2022 academic year.
One hundred ninety-six fees are unchanged from 20202-021. Nine lab fees are decreasing due to reductions in the cost of supplies. Fifteen fees are increasing due to increases in the cost of supplies used in face-to-face and hybrid courses. Four fees are for new face-to-face and hybrid courses or new course requirements. Details of the fee changes are described below:
Decreasing Fees:
CVT 2420 – Invasive Cardiology I
2020-2021 Fee: $151.50 2021-2022 Fee (Proposed): $116.00
CVT 2420 fee decreased as the cost of the expendable supplies are spread out over 14 core courses.
EDE 4304 – Teaching Math and Science: Integrated Methods
2020-2021 Fee: $150.00 2021-2022 Fee (Proposed): $0.00
EDE 4304 fee was for testing services. It was removed because it was deemed inequitable to students; some students were paying out of pocket for testing, and others had previously tested and did not need to test again.
EPI 0095 – EPI Field Experience
2020-2021 Fee: $110.00 2021-2022 Fee (Proposed): $0.00
EPI 0095 fee removed as the textbook fee under lab supplies-expendables has been deleted. Students are now responsible for purchasing textbooks through the bookstore.
HIM 2810L – Coding Application Practicum
2020-2021 Fee: $14.00 2021-2022 Fee (Proposed): $12.00
HIM 2810L fee decreased as student accident and liability rates decreased.
CET 2620C – Connecting Networks
