Lake Wales Little Theatre Kicks off Two Weekends of The Odd Couple Jan. 22

The show must go on. That's what the Lake Wales Little Theatre decided after an empty stage for nearly a year. The curtain will go up Friday, Jan. 22 for a two weekend production of The Odd Couple.

Performances of the classic, fun play will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays through Jan. 31.

The classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assemble for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it's no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed, and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born.

Rob Fritz is directing the Neil Simon play. New and returning performers include Jonathan Lyness as Oscar MadisonCurt Whirl as Felix Ungar, Roy Keenom as Murray, Mike Baccus as Speed, Ian Elliott as Vinnie, Brad Breaux as Roy, Micky Caban as Cecily, and Holly Murren as Gwendolyn.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students under age 18. They can be purchased online at http://www.lwlt.org or by calling the theatre box office at 863-676-1266.

To comply with CDC guidelines in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic the theatre will require masks, limit seating to provide more social distance and take extra precautions to sanitize before and between performances.

The theater is located at 411 N. 3rd St. Due to construction across the street on the Bok North Academy campus, only a portion of the front parking lot will be available. Those with limited mobility can be dropped off in the circular drive. The City of Lake Wales also is working to provide parking and lighting behind the theatre, which can be accessed from Seminole Avenue, with the entrance midway between Scenic Highway and 3rd Street.
