Commission Workshop June 10 to Prepare for June 16 Meeting

New Lake Wales Interim City Manager James Slaton is trying something new - a workshop the Wednesday before the Tuesday regular city commission meeting. The first will be at 3 p.m. June 10.

Slaton said the workshops are designed to give commissioners more advance notice of agenda items - they currently receive the agenda on Friday before the Tuesday meeting. The workshop also will help get input from commissioners, answer questions and give staff a couple of days to revise agenda items based upon the discussion.

Upcoming agenda items include final approval of service buy-in for city managers to qualify for city pensions, resolutions establishing rates for city fire fee and to fund decorative lighting for the Brookshire subdivision, and discussion of possibly raising salaries for the mayor and commissioners, adjusting pay for interim city manager and options for selecting a permanent city manager.
