Shop Local Nov. 30 for Small Business Saturday

Following on the heels of Black Friday, local businesses are encouraging shoppers to participate in Small Business Saturday Nov. 30.

Lake Wales Main Street Executive Director Karen Thompson said shops in historic downtown will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"Every time you pick up a coffee at your local café, grab lunch at the mom-and-pop shop, or buy a new bag from a local store, you're making an impact in your community," Thompson wrote. "In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community."

American Express created Small Business Saturday and the Shop Small trademark 10 years ago to encourage local shopping. Shop Small is a nationwide movement that celebrates small businesses every day and helps communities thrive and stay vibrant. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country.
