Communication Builds Our Community
Zachary Kirkland is a caring teenager committed to helping young people have a better hospital experience. Through his Silly Sock Saturdays nonprofit, Zachary delivers gift bags with socks, games and other comfort items to patients in the pediatric unit at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
A rising junior at Lake Wales High School, Zachary formed his nonprofit when he was in middle school at Bok Academy. "This helps the kids by taking their mind onto other things, not the pain and what the operation might be happening future," he said.
On his website at https://sillysocksaturdays.com/ Zachary describes his mission: "We plan on bringing joy and happiness to kids in hospitals, in the form of silly socks with comfort items, such as toys, coloring books, and crayons, and delivered with a smile."
Zachary will be holding his second bowling fundraiser from on Saturday, July 27 at Cypress Lanes, 2010 Dundee Road in Winter Haven. People can buy tickets or make donations online at https://sillysocksaturdays.ecwid.com/. Tickets are $20, which covers bowling, shoe rental and one prize raffle ticket.
Prize raffle doors include Disney World, Legoland, the Tampa Bay Rays and Lakeland Magic.
