The Lake Wales NAACP Branch 5109 presented its Servant Leader Award to Bishop Roscoe Williams III. Board member Nicara Daniels announced the award at the Branch's 46th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet Saturday, June 15 at the James P. Austin Center.
Williams was born in Sylvester, GA and moved to Florida at a very young age. He graduated with the class of 1974 from Lake Wales High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Annie, and they are the proud parents of four children and grandparents of four.
Immediately after high school, Williams enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard where, after 38 years of service, he retired as a master sergeant and met the requirements for command sergeant major. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Warner University in Lake Wales.
Bishop Williams has served in GST: The Family Church (previously Greater St. Thomas Holiness Church) ministry in various capacities over 30 years – from deacon, minister, youth pastor, assistant pastor to pastor. His dedication to God first and genuine love for others has impacted countless lives and is living proof that God will do what He promised. He currently serves as a bishop in the Church of the Living God Upon the Rock Inc. organization.
Williams' involvement in the community and the leadership responsibilities he has undertaken are numerous. He founded Project Success and the Lake Wales After School Program and has served on boards of the Lake Wales NAACP, the Lake Wales Care Center, Capernaum Ministries, B Street Community Center, Green and Gold Foundation, Highland Park Neighborhood Association, Lake Wales Business Civic and Ministry Coalition and much more.
