Ros Welborn, 1955-2019

James Ros Welborn, 63, of Quincy, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 20 surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.

Ros was born September 9, 1955, in Lake Wales to Clayton "Poncho" Welborn and Margaret "Peggy" Welborn. He attended Lake Wales High School. Ros was employed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in 1983. He worked more than 30 years with the "Game Company" as he loved to call it and retired in 2014. He previously served as an emergency Medical technician for Polk County.

Ros was a devoted husband and father. Training dogs for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was his passion for many years. He was an active member and deacon of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Quincy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Allison Summerford Welborn of Quincy; sister Libby Harvey (Jim) of Taylorsville, Utah, daughter Hannah Welborn, son Hunter Welborn (Kelly), niece Lauren Lindley (Ben), niece Erin Westwood (Ryan) and nephew, Zack Harvey (Zina), many great nieces and nephews and special friends, Larry Edwards of Quincy and Scott Cassels of Blountstown. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, May 31 and services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 1001 W. Washington in Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hunter and Kelly Welborn Adoption Fund at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 1001 West Washington, Quincy, Florida 32351.

Sister Libby shared fond memories of Ros through Facebook. She said Ros was a lot like their dad, never met a stranger. He helped her learn to ride a Kawasaki motorcycle down Ray Martin Road. Casselberry Drive and Steedly Avenue were their childhood domains and they had many great memories growing up in Lake Wales. "Some of the fondest memories I'll always cherish were when we decided to tag team taking care of mom. He was in Florida, I was in Utah, so we would take turns being there with her. In spite of his own health challenges, he kept on doing whatever he could to help me and her. After mom passed, he secured a beach house at Anna Maria Island for our entire families to be together, celebrating her life, because the beach was her happy place. So grateful for that time and for his wonderful generosity." Libby said the family is comforted knowing he is reunited with loved ones now that his life on earth is finished, "No more pain or suffering and knowing his faith and trust in the Lord, brings me peace."
