Lake Wales businessman and community leader Cliff Tonjes peacefully passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at his residence. While he was born and raised in Michigan, Cliff met and married his wife Carol in Niles, Michigan. They lived in Indiana where they raised three children before moving to Lake Wales in 1976. Two people who broke into a home on on Fast Trot Trail, allegedly to "escape" during Hurricane Milton, were arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief in additional to other charges. A two-vehicle crash on SR 60 East took the life of a Lake Wales man early Tuesday evening. Duane Matthew Kolaski, 74, of Lake Wales was driving a black 2017 BMW X7 SUV eastbound near Story Road when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle "drifted" across the median, according to Polk County Sheriff's office investigators. Dr. Francisco J. Ancaya, age 91, passed away in Tampa on September 8, 2024. In Loving Memory of Dr. Ancaya, who passed away of natural causes.
