Vernon S. Dempsey, 78, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, March 29 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. He was born December 12, 1940 in Signal Mountain, TN to the late James Willie and Minnetta Dorothy (Miles) Dempsey. He has been a resident of the area for 12 years and Florida for 22 years. The 2019 Crooked Lake Heritage Festival will celebrate the rich history of Babson Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Webber International University. The free event includes live music, history displays, art activities, food trucks and performance by the Babson Park Elementary chorus. Lake of the Hills Community Club is offering a gourmet grilled chicken dinner from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. The event at their clubhouse at 47 E Starr Ave north of Lake Wales will include live country music, drawings, a clown and silent auction.
