The Lake Wales Care Center on Tuesday, Jan. 28 will kick off its 35th Anniversary with its annual Empty Bowls event that calls attention to the fact that many people face hunger every day. The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven will be hosting a mobile food pantry in Lake Wales on Saturday morning, Jan. 25. In conjunction with Feeding Tampa Bay, the volunteers will distribute free food to those in need. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Ouellette Law Firm, 151 E. For the second time this month the city's plans to purchase the Lake Wales Family YMCA hit a roadblock that pushed the whole deal further down the road. Commissioners at their Jan. 20 meeting approved the purchase of the property for $565,000, but that sale will only go forward if both sides can agree to the lease and operating agreement with the YMCA of West Central Florida.
